Meet Jayden
- While attending a local Putnam County middle school, Jaydon frequently had to retake tests in order to pass his courses. His parents have grown concerned because, although he continues to pass each year, Jayden is falling further and further behind academically compared to where his sister was at the same age.
- Jayden’s parents are enrolling him at Silver Lake Academy because they want him to develop a strong foundation by truly mastering the fundamental concepts of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and history. They would also like him to participate in Bible study as part of his education.
- Jayden scored below grade level on Silver Lake Academy’s placement tests in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. He achieved a score of 85 on the standardized IQ assessment administered by the school. He has no experience typing on a keyboard and is unable to sign his name in cursive writing. He has an interest in Art. He does not want to attend college and does not know what job he'd like to do when he graduates high school.
- Academic Plan: Jayden would benefit most from beginning with remedial coursework in all core subjects. This approach will allow him to strengthen foundational skills before progressing to more advanced material at a pace that supports lasting mastery and confidence.
Meet Faith
- While attending a local Putnam County middle school, Faith occasionally had to retake math and science tests in order to pass her courses. She performed well in English and Social Studies. Her parents are concerned about the overall academic environment at Palatka High School, which consistently ranks in the bottom half—and often the bottom 30–40%—of Florida high schools.
- Faith’s parents are enrolling her at Silver Lake Academy because they want her to build a strong academic foundation by mastering the fundamental concepts of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and history. They would also like her to participate in Bible study as part of her education.
- Faith scored on grade level on Silver Lake Academy’s placement tests in English and Social Studies, but below grade level in Math and Science. She achieved a score of 100 on the standardized IQ assessment. While she types very quickly on her phone, she scored only 15 words per minute on the school’s typing assessment. Faith does not plan to attend college. After high school, she expects to work for a few years, perhaps as a secretary or bank teller, before starting a family.
- Recommended Academic Plan: Faith would benefit most from beginning with remedial coursework in Math and Science. This approach will allow her to strengthen her foundational skills before progressing to more advanced material at a pace that supports lasting mastery and confidence.
Meet Destiny
- While attending a local Putnam County middle school, Destiny performed well across all subjects. Her parents are concerned about the overall academic environment at Palatka High School, which consistently ranks in the bottom half—and often the bottom 30–40%—of Florida high schools.
- Destiny’s parents considered enrolling her in Florida Virtual Academy but were concerned she might struggle to stay on track independently. They are enrolling her at Silver Lake Academy because they want her to continue advancing to her full academic potential while also integrating Bible study into her daily life.
- Destiny scored on grade level across all of Silver Lake Academy’s placement tests. She achieved a score of 105 on the standardized IQ assessment and typed 40 words per minute on the school’s typing assessment. After high school, Destiny plans to attend St. Johns River State College to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Alternatively, she'd like to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and then attend law school. She's also interested in learning how to speak Spanish.
- Recommended Academic Plan: Destiny will be enrolled in grade-level courses across all core subjects. This placement will allow her to continue building on her strong academic foundation while progressing at an appropriate pace.
Meet Samuel
- While attending a local Putnam County middle school, Samuel performed exceptionally well across all subjects. However, he experienced significant distress due to repeated incidents of bullying, as other students pressured him to allow them to cheat off his work. Both Sam and his parents have decided they are finished with Putnam County Public Schools.
- Sam’s parents are enrolling him at Silver Lake Academy because they want him to continue his education in a safe and supportive environment, free from bullying. They are also drawn to the opportunity for him to participate in kayaking and fishing activities on Silver Lake.
- Samuel scored above grade level on all of Silver Lake Academy’s placement tests. He achieved a score of 130 on the standardized IQ assessment and typed 45 words per minute on the school’s typing assessment. After high school, Sam plans to earn a Bachelor's degree from Flagler College and then a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of St Augustine fro Health Sciences.
- Recommended Academic Plan: Sam will be placed on a rigorous academic track. This will include taking both Algebra I and Geometry during his freshman year, positioning him to complete Calculus before graduation. This accelerated pathway is designed to challenge him appropriately and support his strong academic abilities.
